IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark
Szpryka
September 27, 1962 – October 9, 2025
Mark Szpyrka, born on September 27, 1962, passed away on October 6, 2025. He valued his family and friends, especially his wife and grandkids dearly, and was known for his great sense of humor and kind heart.
A lifelong Philadelphian at heart, Mark was an avid supporter of all Philadelphia sports — cheering on his teams through every season with steadfast loyalty and passion. He also loved to brag about his meals made with love by his wife.
For decades, Mark brought joy and energy to the city he loved by marching in the iconic Mummers Parade with the Jokers and Happy Tappers. His vibrant spirit and love of community shone brightly through this cherished tradition. A talented artist, he also created miniature Mummers dolls that became treasured keepsakes and popular items at the Mummers Museum.
Mark loved connecting with friends and family, whether around a board game or in online gaming communities, where his wit, kindness, and competitive spirit made him a favorite among his peers.
He had a deep love for animals and carried a soft spot for those in need — both people and pets alike.
A proud graduate of La Salle College, Mark built lifelong friendships and cultivated the creativity and curiosity that defined him throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, George and Louise Szpyrka, and his sister, Rosemarie Jones, whose memories he held close to his heart. He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Thrash-Szpyrka, and his devoted siblings, George Szpyrka and Lorraine Wichert, and his grandchildren, Landyn and Isabella Dieterly, who will always remember his generosity, laughter, and loyal heart.
Mark's life was a celebration of joy, friendship, and the simple things that make life rich — good music, great company, and the thrill of a close game. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
